I just got this lovely mention in one of the reviews at the Civic Theatre here in Auckland, New Zealand:
"In the Jet boys, Joe Bigelow as the ball of fury called Action is coiled with tension, intensity and concentration that springs over the footlights." Here is the link to the full review. While I was in Minnesota, I had the great privilege of being interviewed on my hometown's local radio station, KDWA. In the interview, Mo McNeary (the host) and I discuss life on the road, what West Side Story means today, and the cultural differences between different countries I have visited. It is a really great conversation. Check it out by clicking on the button below!
We have arrived in Dubai for our first stop since vacation, and what a place it is! Today was our only real day to explore, so I went with some cast-mates to downtown Dubai and explored the beautiful mall and some of the surrounding area. I don't know exactly how I feel about this place. Yes, it is breathtaking because of the amazing structures and environment of the city, but it is unsettling because of the hunger for money and profit sustaining all this. Still, I had a lovely day and was grateful to spend some time seeing some of the beauty here. The traveling was insane, and I have not caught up yet. We caught a bus to JFK at 4:15 a.m., flew on a 6.5-hour long flight to London, and then caught a 7-hour long flight to Dubai. We arrived at 8:30 a.m. Dubai time, and I have been trying to force myself to stay awake all day, not having slept on either flight. It hit me really hard mid-afternoon, and I did decide to take a 2-hour long nap, which turned out to be extremely beneficial. We start rehearsing tomorrow at the Dubai Opera to work the 4 new cast members into the show. It will be interesting to see how the performing dynamics are with the new people. Also (just wanna throw this out there), I cannot wait to start doing the show again! I have been aching to get back on the road for about a week-and-a-half, so I could not be happier to finally be doing just that. More to come! I am excited to announce that I am going around the world for the next 15 months with the international tour of West Side Story, directed and choreographed by Joey McKneely. We just finished our first week of rehearsal here in Ampflwang, Austria, and it was pretty fantastic: also (holy crap) HARD. This is probably the hardest show I have ever done, but I am loving it. We just finished our first week of rehearsal (the pic is from dinner after rehearsal last night). This week, we learned the Dance at the Gym, Cool, the Prologue, America, and the Ballet, so we were working pretty hard. Now for a well-needed day off! 'Director Cheryl Katz guides the two talented young actors, Joe Bigelow as Leopold and Dean Linnard as Loeb, through moment-to-moment truthful performances' -NorthJersey.com 'Both Linnard and Bigelow are expertly subtle, betraying just enough to make their characters' emotions clear without losing their composure.' -NJ.com 'Bigelow effectively makes Leopold seem like just a normal guy, at first, before letting us see how deranged he, too, is.' -NJArts.net 'Linnard has a burning intensity, with the thrum of high tension wires lurking just below human hearing, while Bigelow’s louche sexiness plays hide and seek with this sharp intellect.' -[Q]onStage |
